Abstract
This research is studied to find the way to minimize the stress of a family provider and to find the practical direction to raise the quality of life by finding out the level and effect factors of care-giving stress that a family provider who cares elders for a long-term period experiences. For this, we have researched the care-givers who live in Seoul teukbyeol-si, Gwangmyung-si, and Hongcheon-gun and support a sick elderly of using the long-term care insurance for more than 6 months. We found the results on the following: First, the elders in the long-term care and a family care-giver were mostly women and for the disease of the elderly, dementia and stroke were 63% of total. Second, it is investigated that the long-term care insurance reduces care stress of a family provider significantly, especially the time stress reduced mostly and then the physical stress. Third, the factors for care stress were about education, religion life, type of housing, health status, occupation level of living, care-giving time and the relationship with the elderly of a care-giver and especially for the comparison of residential areas, the care-giving stress of people lives in a small city and rural area was higher than people live in a big city. Fourth, the active coping methods such problem-based coping and restructure coping were effective for lowering the stress among coping strategies of a care-giver but the passive coping methods such as evasion and avoidance coping and regressive coping increase the care-giving stress. Therefore an education program for a care-giver is actively required with developing an intervention program about stress reduction and life satisfaction of care-giver based on identified stress factors of the care-giver in this research.
